Full House Star Speaks Out Against Olympics Opening Ceremony

The Paris 2024 Olympic Games are currently underway, but it seems that many people are still talking about the controversial Opening Ceremony. Numerous Christian groups have criticized the proceedings, claiming that drag performers at a long table were depicting Leonardo da Vinci’s The Last Supper painting. Even prominent figures like Donald Trump have spoken out against it.

Candace Cameron Bure, known for her role as D.J. Tanner on Full House, has now joined the debate. In an Instagram video, she expressed her disappointment with the Opening Ceremony, saying, “It felt too important not to [speak up]. I love the Olympic Games, and they have always brought me so much joy.” Bure’s husband, Valeri Bure, and other family members have all won Olympic medals, so the Games hold a special place in her heart.

Bure found the portrayal of the Last Supper in the Opening Ceremony to be disrespectful to the Christian faith. She described it as “disgusting” and expressed her sadness for those who have rejected or don’t know the gospel of Jesus Christ. Bure’s faith is important to her, and she often prays for her heart to break over what breaks God’s heart. She quoted from Galatians in the Bible, emphasizing that God is not mocked and individuals will reap what they sow.

Following the controversy, a spokeswoman for the Paris 2024 Olympics has apologized, stating that there was never an intention to disrespect any religious group. Choreographer Thomas Jolly, who created the scene, also emphasized that his goal was to bring people together and affirm values of liberty, equality, and fraternity.

The debate surrounding the Opening Ceremony continues, but the Games themselves are well underway. As of now, Team USA has won a total of 26 gold medals, with outstanding performances by athletes such as Simone Biles in artistic gymnastics and Torri Huske in swimming. The Games are a testament to the skill and dedication of the world’s best athletes, regardless of any controversy surrounding the Opening Ceremony.

Let us enjoy the spirit of competition and cheer on our favorite athletes as they strive for greatness at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
