Brian and Linda are called to visit their ailing grandmother, Marlene, for what would be their final time with her.
Brian, the older sibling, inherits her house, while Linda is left with five rusty old clocks.
Brian mocks her, revealing his greedy nature. Marlene gifts both of them $5,000,but Brian is dissatisfied, showing his lack of gratitude. Linda, touched by her grandmother’s kindness, remembers the many sacrifices she made for her and takes a month off school to care for her.
During this time, Linda renovates Marlene’s house, bringing joy and comfort back into her grandmother’s life. Deeply moved, Marlene expresses her wish to “die happy,” which sadly happens shortly after the house is finished.
After Marlene’s funeral, the siblings learn about the will. Brian is thrilled to inherit the house,
while Linda receives the clocks. Unfazed by Brian’s mockery, Linda returns to the city with the clocks, not realizing their hidden value. One day,she notices an engraving inside one of the clocks, instructing her to open it.
To her surprise, the clocks are revealed to be rare antiques worth $40,000 each.
Overwhelmed with joy, Linda understands that her grandmother’s true intention was to ensure she received something valuable, despite what seemed like a lesser inheritance. Choosing to keep this secret,Linda feels a deep connection to her grandmother and reflects on the difference between her and Brian’s values.
“True worth goes beyond material possessions,” she concludes, as her life is transformed by the hidden treasures of love and wisdom her grandmother left behind.
