ABC’s “The View” has been the subject of intense criticism after co-hosts on the daytime talk show have expressed a desire to regulate media they disagree with in an apparent call for censorship after President-elect Donald Trump’s decisive victory over Vice President Kamala Harris. As a result, conservatives have slammed the show for seemingly trying to silence conservative speech.
After the election, co-host Joy Behar went on a tirade about supposed “fake news” while attacking Fox News. She said, “Can we not let Fox News off the hook, please? All the fake news that’s been going out there. You know, one of the things that we need to do, and it’s not to abolish the Department of Education, as a former teacher, believe me, this is, [Trump’s] talking about doing that.”
Furthermore, Behar cited Finland where young children are indoctrinated on how to spot “fake news” and differentiated it from “real news,” stating, “In Finland, kids in nursery school are learning to discern between fake news and real news.” Continuing, Behar suggested that kids in America should undergo a similar form of programming. “They should be teaching that in this country,” she added.
Co-host Sarah Haines weighed in, suggesting that social media and “rogue corporations” should be regulated by the federal government. “Well, it would help if we could regulate social media…because one of the biggest defenders is D.C. and Congress. They have not been able to do one thing in regard to the rogue corporations on social media,” she said. Haines’ criticism presumably encompasses X, where Elon Musk has transformed the platform into a free speech platform where conservatives are not targeted, which was integral in the 2024 election.

One user on X, reacted to the commentary on “The View,” stating, “The view is the epicenter for fake news & the fact they called OTHER media fake news and said they want to “regulate” (aka censor) free speech on social media is unconscionable! They should be off the air, those liars. They know they are obsolete and ineffective now so they want their competition “regulated.”
Similarly, the famous X account The Vigilant Fox wrote, “After lacking the self-awareness to reflect on what the Democratic party got crushed at the ballot box, the show reached a fitting end when panelists Joy Behar and Sara Haines openly admitted their hate for the First Amendment.” The account added, “Thank God these people like this lost in a landslide. What a disaster that would have been.”
“This is a show of supreme bigotry, arrogance and ignorance. The show once envisioned by trailblazer Barbara Walters as a show to elevate women’s voices and issues, a chance to be taken seriously as journalists has devolved into a shameful degraded and distorted caricature of its intended purpose -its existence today is as grotesque as are the hosts. It is an affront to all women,” another person said.
